least a month before moving

choose a removal company & confirm your removal
date
- check that all is in order with the estate agent or
the landlord regarding your property purchase or rental
- if you are moving far away, make any necessary travel
arrangements (flight, accommodation, car hire)
- make sure you notify family & friends of your
new address as well as all the necessary administrative
authorities (tax, etc…), your bank, your insurance company,
service providers and any mailing services you subscribe
to
- notify the post office of your new address & arrange
for your post to be forwarded if necessary
- keep any receipts you may have related to your move,
some may be useful for tax deduction
- keep all important documents together in a safe place
(passport, legal documents, medical records…)
- make sure you have all the necessary materiel to for
packing your belongings & start packing little by
little. Don’t forget to keep some personal belongings
aside that you can pack at the last minute for the removal
day (toiletries, change of clothes, food & beverages…)

Nearer
the time
-
make any necessary arrangements regarding the transfer
or closure of your bank account
- arrange for gas, electricity, telephone, cable or
satellite TV services to be disconnected at your old
address, connected at your new address or transferred
to your new address
- if you have children make sure you have made suitable
arrangements for them on the removal day. If they will
be with you during the move, prepare some toys &
games to keep them occupied
- if friends or family are helping you move, make sure
they are still available & have noted the date in
their diary
